		<description>Lately I&#039;ve been having my athletes hold different paces for different distances so that they can get the feel for a particular pace.  I want their bodies to know exactly what it feels like to do 400, 1000, 1500 paces.  And you know what occurs to me?  They know their running paces because they do running races--10ks, half marathons.  But I don&#039;t think any of them has done anything similar with swimming.  Maybe time trial-ing more would help them (we don&#039;t have any adult swim competitions in Kansas that I know of).</description>

		<description>Not to mention the advantage you get in pool swims; if you haven&#039;t been practicing flip turns (or even open turns) under the lane rope, you&#039;re up a creek without a paddle for a pool sprint!</description>

Our heads are pretty heavy and if we add that mass effectively to our momentum, it will help our results.  

In the breaststroke for example, doing a shallow downward nod where my ears are in between my biceps after I inhale and do a shallow dive as I kick really helps me.

Once I have swimmers stop throwing their heads about needlessly, I do like them to gain a little back by using their head a little to aid them.</description>

		<description>Strangely enough, I&#039;ve felt my timing slipping in the past few months.  Towards the end of my base phase, I was feeling so smooth and easy in the swim.  Now I feel like I have to work harder.  I think it&#039;s because I&#039;m trying to hold more difficult paces. But I&#039;d really like to be able to swim fast &lt;i&gt;and&lt;/i&gt;smooth.</description>

		<description>I had one friend with whom I would always swim; that was our hang out time.  We would share a lane, mostly doing kicking sets with some short, aerobic sets thrown in.  But you&#039;re right--it was great fun, especially in the California sunshine!</description>

		<description>I think that&#039;s a bit of an oversimplification.  The problem goes much deeper than young women having excess energy.  What is the problem?  Not sure.  But I would attribute it to the general disrespect for human worth that has always been present in high school, but seems to be increasing at an alarming rate.  What I mean is that one group of teenagers often thinks of another group as sub-standard, sub-human.  This becomes even easier when you remove the face-to-face contact of human interaction, which is rapidly being replaced by online social networking.

Although I do agree that getting young women involved in a sport like swimming or triathlon would be valuable for ameliorating this social trend; sports-and endurance sports in particular-bring a specific brand of reality to life.</description>
