Have you really noticed how fish swim?
Most of the time many fish when they swim are merely balancing, almost motionless. Yet if we place our hand in the water, fish can immediately swim at a speed faster than our hands can move.
Starting from a balanced, streamlined position is key to swimming fast. Almost everyone can feel balanced and streamlined for a few moments when they push off from the end of the pool. Fish and great swimmers can keep that balance going across any body of water.
If you are having trouble in the water, ask yourself if you are balanced and streamlined. If you are not balanced and streamlined, it will feel like a dog paddling and not a fish or a swimmer swimming. If you only lose your balance when you go for a breath of air, that too can be corrected.
If you want to swim like a fish, learn to balance like a fish.
