It’s fun to discover what the power of paying attention can do for technique and the swim. While swimming a mile with a friend this morning I noticed that there were times when I was falling behind and pulling ahead.
To improve my performance in order to pull back even or swim ahead, I simply focused on being longer. Imagine laying down on the floor or bed and stretching further to feel taller and longer.
So while my friend may have thought I was putting more effort into my swim at those times, I was doing the opposite. I was putting more thought into what I was doing and the result was less effort!
There were multiple effects of being longer while I swam. Being longer helped my balance and I felt level in the water. Being longer helped me be more streamlined.
The best effect was that I was able to swim faster to stay with someone else that I consider a better swimmer in many ways. Paying attention to what I was doing paid off.
When swimming, pay attention and notice what improves your swim.
